Colchester MP Bob Russell was a guest on Hospital Radio Colchester's "Mersea Island Discs" programme. He is pictured with presenter Penney McAvoy (right) and HRC team leader Kelly Murray who was in charge of the 30-minute programme.

Mr Russell spoke about his life growing up in Colchester and his years as both a Borough Councillor and the town's MP.

The three records he chose to be played were: "Walking Back To Happiness" by Helen Shapiro; a school choir singing "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace"; and "The Carnival is Over" by The Seekers.

Hospital Radio Colchester recently moved to new studios which have been constructed in the South Lodge at the entrance to the former Turner Village, off Turner Road. Mr Russell was instrumental in persuading local NHS officials not to demolish this Lodge and the adjacent North Lodge which he said should be retained as a visual tribute of the former Turner Village Hospital.
