Colchester MP Bob Russell has been elected to the Executive Committee of the UK Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the first Liberal Democrat to achieve this position. The election was made by MPs and Peers from all political parties.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association unites Parliamentarians of the countries of the Commonwealth. In the past Mr Russell has welcomed to Colchester a delegation of Commonwealth Parliamentarians and spoken at several seminars at Westminster for visiting Commonwealth MPs. He is Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Island of St Helena Group and nine years ago went on a CPA visit to the remote island in the South Atlantic
