Russell appointed to football inquiry

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 20th May 2008

Colchester MP Bob Russell - a life-long supporter of Colchester United Football Club - has been appointed to a high-profile Parliamentary inquiry into "English Football and its Governance".

The Inquiry will be hearing evidence from leading figures in English football. It follows concerns over the way in which professional football is being run.

Liberal Democrat Mr Russell is a Vice-Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Football Group which is organising the inquiry on Select Committee lines. All sessions will be open to the media and public, and at the end of the inquiry a report will be published over the summer. It is likely to make recommendations in the light of the evidence given.

The first session will be held on Wednesday 7th May, at 2.30pm, at the House of Commons in the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House.
