Town MP welcomes Tajik parliamentarians

Colchester MP Bob Russell welcomed a high-level Parliamentary delegation from Tajikistan, formerly part of the Soviet Union, who are spending a week at the internationally acclaimed Children's Legal Centre based at the University of Essex. The eight-strong group includes the country's Deputy Prime Minister, Mrs Rukiya Kurbonova.

Mr Russell gave a general introduction to both Colchester's history and the British Parliamentary system.

The Children's Legal Centre has been working in Tajikistan, in collaboration with UNICEF and the Government of Tajikistan, for more than four years. This has involved research, analysis and reform in the areas of juvenile justice, children with disabilities, and child protection.
